Step up, step down class

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service launches Step Up & Scale Down, a 12-week weight management program based on 2010 USDA guidelines.

The series will begin from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2 at the County Extension Office, 4224 Cobbs Drive.

Day camp

Local American Heritage Girls and Trail Life USA troops will be hosting a swim-focused day camp from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. August 1-4.

Cost is $50 plus membership and includes archery, leather and wood crafts, nature studies, first aid, and snacks. Children aged 5 to 13 are catered for and camp counselors aged 14 to 18 attend free of charge.

Aquaponics YMCA

Kids can explore aquaponics at the upcoming YMCA Kids STEAM Classes taking place at the Y, 6800 Harvey Drive. Ages 6-12 will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on August 8 and ages 3-6 will meet at 5:30-6:30 p.m. on August 15.

The cost is $30 per child. Places are limited and registration is compulsory. Registration closes one week before class. Call 254-776-6612 for more information. Parents should be aware that children will come away with a fish to take care of.

TMNT at the Richland Mall

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo and Raphael will make an appearance at the Richland Mall, 6001 W. Waco Drive, from 2-4 p.m. on July 30.

Half-shell heroes will pose for photos with the attendees and sign autographs.

Back-to-school barbecue

The Waco Family & Faith International Film Festival presents its annual Community BBQ and Back-to-School Picnic from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at Whitehall Park, 7600 Fresno Road in Woodway.

Guests can enjoy a fresh summer meal and will leave with a backpack full of supplies for the new school year, while supplies last.
