Rex the Squirrel, the new mascot and local ambassador for the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department, had fun meeting members of the community at this week’s birthday party.
On Wednesday, the Recreation and Parks Department hosted the family event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tuscawilla Park, located at 800 NE Sanchez Avenue.
There were outdoor activities, face painting, and the police department’s Polar Patrol was on hand to hand out frozen treats.

Rex made numerous appearances throughout the event to interact with attendees and pose for photos.

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, a month-long celebration that highlights the impact of parks and recreation within the community.
When Rex the Squirrel was first announced, Ocala Recreation and Parks Manager Preston Pooser said, “We are thrilled to welcome Rex to the Ocala Recreation and Parks team. . Rex will be a great ambassador for our department while providing the opportunity to interact with children, tweens and adults. »
