MusicNL Connecting newcomers, graduates with local industry

For the first time, newcomers and those new to the music industry after school can now get the most important connections they need through MusicNL.

MusicNL Executive Director Rhonda Tulk Lane says the Instrumental Connections program will help connect people who don’t know the local scene.

They hired a manager, Mariana Castro-Carvajal, who came to the province to study musicology.

She says Mariana will meet the artists, find out what they do and put them in touch with the right people.

The provincial government provided funding to help with the program. Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne was on hand for the official launch of Music Week in Corner Brook yesterday. The event included performances by Nandimal Herath, from Sri Lanka to Corner Brook, and local artist Jamie Stone.

Byrne says the fusion of local talent and newcomers “was really on display in a lot of style.”
