Gazette’s Love Local Retail Awards Reveal Top Companies


A WEALTH of retail talent was celebrated in the Love Local Retail Awards.

The awards to celebrate the best businesses in North Essex, businesses have joined forces with the Gazette and Essex County Council to celebrate local retail talent.

The campaign aims to encourage residents of Colchester to shop, eat, drink and visit local merchants, providing positive effects such as supporting local businesses and putting money back into the North East economy. Essex.

Entries closed in May and the winners are now in.

The awards were divided into four categories: Best Local Garden Centre, Best Local Home Retailer, Best Local Fashion Retailer, Best Local Technology Retailer and Best Local Specialty Retailer.

The award for Best Local Garden Center went to Blenheim Garden Centre, Bromley Road, Colchester.

Owner John Harris, who established the business on Bromley Road over 30 years ago, said: “Many of our customers have supported us from the start and have seen the business grow into what it is today. today.

“We are very grateful for their loyalty.”

The prize for best local specialist retailer went to the Oranges and Lemons cafe across the border from Essex in East Bergholt.

New owner Sharon Willets said: “We are proud to be an important part of the village.

“The shop is full of fabulous and original gift ideas and the cafe is well known for its fantastic lunches and amazing cakes, all cooked on site by the stellar kitchen team.

“We are grateful to the customers for nominating and voting for us.”

The winner for best local tech retailer went to Currys at Stanway.

Acknowledging the award, manager Ashley Loxdale said: “Winning a local competition voted on by the public really means a lot to me and the rest of the management team at Colchester.

“It really shows that we’re helping people take advantage of amazing technology.”

The award for best local home retailer went to the Neptune home store in Stanway.

On accepting the award, manager Liz Dalton said, “We are delighted to have received the award for best local home retailer.
