A community group in North Cumbria has been selected for funding under a scheme run by the co-op.
Friends of Silloth Green have been selected for a second consecutive year as a local cause to benefit from the Co-op’s Local Community Fund.
When customers purchase select Co-op branded products and services, the Co-op will use a portion of the proceeds to help local causes.
A spokesperson for Friends of Silloth Green said: “When members purchase selected Co-op branded products and services, the Co-op is supporting local causes.
“In 2020/21 a total of £2,846.82 was raised for the Friends of Silloth Green through co-op members. The money was used to buy plants, tools, equipment and refreshments for volunteer sessions on Silloth Green.
“We have also built new raised beds at the Community Garden, so that people with disabilities can participate more easily.
“A very big thank you from the Friends of Silloth Green. All the money raised will be used to support the activities of our volunteers and projects on Silloth Green.”
Band members received a check outside the Silloth Co-op store earlier this week.
The group works for the maintenance, improvement and use of Silloth Green by protecting the facilities and contributing to their improvement.
They say their work encourages a sense of pride and ownership of what is valued by residents as a valuable community asset.
The Friends of Silloth Green run volunteer sessions that protect mental and physical health by helping people make new friends and learn new skills.
Some of those involved said their activities helped reduce stress, fight depressions, keep them mentally stimulated and give them meaning.
In recent months, the group has organized photo contests and created its own calendar for the year 2022.
