Creation of the Vine Grove Economic Development Advisory Committee | Local News

Vine Grove officials want to make sure the town is prepared for an increase in population.

To that end, Vine Grove Councilwoman Selena Hudson formed the Vine Grove Economic Development Advisory Committee. Once a month, a different guest speaker will speak to the committee, which also includes Vine Grove Councilman Lonnie Dennis, as well as an advisory group made up of representatives from various sectors within the community.

Information gathered from these interactions will be used to inform the Mayor and City Council of ideas that may benefit Vine Grove in the future.

“That’s exactly why it’s called an advisory board,” she says. “They’re going to help us implement the ideas that we have, give us their own ideas, and we’re just going to brainstorm and figure out what needs to be done next and bring it back to the council and the mayor.”

Hudson says members of the advisory group will rotate annually and people can volunteer to be part of the group. She says their hope is to have representation from all economic sectors of the community.

Dennis hopes the committee will help the city prepare for inevitable growth with major industries, such as Nucor in Meade County and Ford in Glendale, located near Vine Grove.

“I feel like Vine Grove is sitting in the perfect place to be able to support both of these industries, so I think we’re going to see a lot of people coming to us,” he said. “I want Vine Grove ready for this.”

Hudson says they have plans for some of the undeveloped areas of the city. She says she would also like to revitalize downtown.

The committee plans to meet on the fourth Monday of each month. They will hold their first meeting at 5 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Vine Grove City Hall.
