Befimmo: Silversquare opens an eighth coworking space

Only one year after the opening of Silversquare Bailli, Silversquare Central is now also open for business in a prime location opposite Brussels Central Station, in the heart of the capital. And the activity is booming, with 65% of the available private offices already leased. Even a pandemic cannot dampen the enthusiasm and ambition of the coworking pioneer. “We are more determined than ever to build a strong network across Belgium over the next few years,” says Axel Kuborn, one of the founders of Silversquare. “Coworking has not yet reached its peak. We have seen an increase in the need for more flexibility over the past year and are able to respond perfectly to this development, thanks to our wide range of office solutions. We will open a new site in the North Quarter of Brussels at the start of 2022, followed by Liège, Antwerp and Louvain-La-Neuve.

MANIERA is the key in Central

Silversquare always collaborates with renowned artists and designers for the interior design of their coworking places. The Brussels-Central station building is no exception and includes many unique creations by artists and architects, each carefully selected by the highly respected Belgian artist collective MANIERA. Under the leadership of its founders, Amaryllis Jacobs and Kwinten Lavigne, the various designers and architects worked together to create furniture and other objects for a multifunctional workspace of around 5,700 m2, offering offices and facilities of at least 650 entrepreneurs. Silversquare Central was designed for entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs, and perfectly reflects the vision of Silversquare founders Alexandre Ponchon and Alex Kuborn.

Brussels is getting too small

Silversquare Bailli and Silversquare Central are now fully operational, but Silversquare continues its momentum and will soon add a ninth location to its constantly expanding portfolio in the Belgian and European capital: Silversquare Kanal. After that, Silversquare will further expand its reach, as Liège, Antwerp and Louvain-la-Neuve will become the next host cities for the Belgian coworking pioneer. And these are not random choices. “The choice of each location is always based on a clear and thoughtful strategy,” explains Alexandre Ponchon, co-founder of Silversquare. “It was a conscious decision to focus on Brussels (and Zaventem) first to allow us to establish a solid base from which we could then expand into other big Belgian cities. By the end of this year, we will have completed the first stage of our strategic plan, and at that time, we will begin the second stage. Thanks to our partner Befimmo, a Belgian company specializing in office property, we will be able to invest more in new coworking spaces ”.

Work in coworking spaces

So now he’s back to work, literally. Now that the corona storm in our country finally seems to be subsiding, we can begin to physically return to the office again, although the word “office” now has a much broader context. The lockdowns last year have given new weight to the notion of working from home.

“Offices are still important, but in the future they will be used in a different way”, says Alexandre Ponchon. “The office will become a pleasant place to work together, a place to stimulate professional motivation and well-being. Desks will be used more for important meetings and brainstorming, and less for day-to-day administrative work. There is a need for a mix of traditional office spaces, work from home and coworking spaces: something for everyone. This mix is ​​the cornerstone of the cooperation between Silversquare and Befimmo: together, we are a central office for office automation solutions. And Central will be our flagship, the place where all of these solutions come together. ‘

“Coworking is a welcome alternative for the self-employed. In the independent economy, the needs of today and tomorrow are not necessarily the same. Freelancers are very flexible and expect the same from their work environment. They need hubs that give them the freedom to be creative. But we also have good solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, ”adds Alex Kuborn. “They often prefer our private offices. In this way, they can combine privacy with a creative and lively workspace. At least 70% of Silversquare’s income comes from private offices for 20 to 30 people. ‘
